PostSubject: Dragon Boxes   Sat Jan 14, 2012 5:25 pm

What are Dragon Boxes you ask? The Dragon Box is a large and elaborate DVD box set, containing 42 episodes per box from the DragonBall Z anime series. A total of seven Dragon Boxes have been released, which together span the entire television series. The boxes include the English dub with original Japanese score in 5.1 surround sound, as well as the original Japanese mono audio track running at a higher bit-rate than the previous season set releases. Each box also contains a Dragon Book which has episode summaries, original Japanese names, and other entertaining information. This release is considered to be the definitive collector's set to any DragonBall fanatic.

Last year (May 10th, 2010) I posted, on Daizex, about collecting the first three volumes. Since then, I've collected the remaining four. I ordered them off of Amazon, November 14th, and they arrived about a week later. Below is my complete collection.

I must say it is a nice feeling (and bittersweet) to know I finally have the complete DragonBall series. And while I do hope we get a Dragon Box release of the movies, DragonBall, and GT I won't be disappointed if we don't.

For those unaware, if you want this complete set, you must start collecting now as FUNimation has announced the Dragon Boxes were all limited edition box sets, and that they will not have a second run. Meaning what is out there is all there is going to be. A few have already started to become hard to find, such as Dragon Box #2 and #4. The only way you're going to get that one is by paying through the yin-yang for it.

So anyone else collecting this release or planning to?

They're a definite must for any DragonBall fan. They've been all the buzz around the DragonBall community since their release was announced.

Ima guess the 1st box was radditz arrival to the day before vegeta and nappa arrived. 2nd box might have been entire battle between Nappa and Vegeta. 3rd box might be there entire time on Namek. 4th box starts with garlic jr then imperfect cell and cells almost perfect from. 5th box is perfect cell and the cell games. 6th box is great saiyaman saga and the world tournament. final saga is majin buu to the end of dbz.

I am probably very wrong.

I'm not sure what they'd come to be exactly, but there are 42 episodes per box for the first four boxes, 41 episodes per box for the next two, and 40 episodes for box seven. So it breaks down like this...
  • Box 1 - Episodes 1 - 42
  • Box 2 - Episodes 43 - 84
  • Box 3 - Episodes 85 - 126
  • Box 4 - Episode 127 - 168
  • Box 5 - Episode 169 - 209
  • Box 6 - Episode 210 - 250
  • Box 7 - Episode 251 - 291

I haven't seen the original DragonBall Z on TV lately. Are you thinking of Kai?

I agree though on the Ocean Dub dubbing though. I prefer them for the first two sagas, and then FUNimation's for the remaining ones.
